Bath Golf Club occupies an area of just over 97 hectares (240 acres) of which just over 32 hectares (79 acres) lies within the curtilege of a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The course however represents a complex archaeological palimpsest, and includes, among other significant features, Bronze Age barrows, an extensive Iron Age/ Romano- British field system, pillow mounds, 18th/19th century quarry workings, one end of an early 19th century inclined plane, and a 19th century firing range. In summary the Golf Course property emerges as a rare example of a high degree of integration between the various component elements, representing an extremely significant survival of its type, which is regarded by many authorities as of national importance. In 2004 the club employed Bristol and Region Archaeological Services to complete a desktop study to discover full extend of the features.
