Why Bath Golf Club?

  • We have recently been promoted to the number 2 golf course in Somerset (top100golfcourses.co.uk)

  • One of the driest and 'weatherproof' courses in the West Country

  • One of Golf World’s Top 200 Courses in the country (2015)

Sham Castle

Affectionately known as “Sham Castle” by the locals, the course earned its nick-name from the neighbouring architectural folly Sham Castle. The ‘castle’ stands in a field adjoining the course and although appearing to be the entrance gate to an impressive baronial hall, is in fact nothing more than a single wall. Built during Bath’s 18th century heyday at the request of seriously wealthy Ralph Allen, it was built with his own Bath stone in order, as he himself wrote, "to charm all visitors to Bath".

The Bath 'Experience'

History, tradition and one of the best golf courses in the South West of England is what you can expect to find at our club.

In 2010, Bath Golf Club was featured in Golf Monthly. The journalist spoke highly of numerous exciting holes and an extremely friendly clubhouse and subsequently wrote:

The excellent course at Sham Castle was no disappointment. In fine condition and perched high up on Hampton Down it has panoramic views down over the Georgian City and across the Avon Valley.
