Bath Golf Club is one of England's oldest and finest inland courses and considered the premier golf club in Bath and North East Somerset and one of the top courses in the West Country. Established in 1880 it quickly earned and has kept its reputation as a welcoming club with a thought-provoking course and stunning views.
Sham Castle
Affectionately known as “Sham Castle” by the locals, the course earned its nick-name from the neighbouring architectural folly Sham Castle. The ‘castle’ stands in a field adjoining the course and although appearing to be the entrance gate to an impressive baronial hall, is in fact nothing more than a single wall. Built during Bath’s 18th century heyday at the request of seriously wealthy Ralph Allen, it was reputedly created so that he might look out from the window of his town house in the City and see a castle.

The Bath 'Experience'
History, tradition and one of the best golf courses in the South West of England is what you might expect to find at this club, or at least that is what one might interpret from a recent golf magazine article.
In 2010, Bath Golf Club was featured in Golf Monthly. The journalist, a great fan of Harry S. Colt (legendary course architect) was really excited at the prospect of playing one of Harry's courses. The journalist spoke highly of numerous exciting holes and an extremely friendly clubhouse and subsequently wrote.
The excellent course at Sham Castle was no disappointment. In fine condition and perched high up on Hampton Down it has panoramic views down over the Georgian City and across the Avon Valley.
